Now Imagine, you’re there. For the whole day. For the whole week. For the whole month. Everyday for 10 hours. And you don’t have the liberty to sleep like these gentlemen.

Presenting the most underrated job which requires hell of patience.

“A Worker In a Saree Shop”

अब कल्पना कीजिए, आप वहां हैं। पूरे दिन के लिए। पूरे सप्ताह के लिए। पूरे महीने के लिए। हर रोज 10 घंटे के लिए। और आपको इन सज्जनों की तरह सोने की आजादी नहीं है।  सबसे कम आंका जाने वाला कार्य प्रस्तुत करना जिसके लिए धैर्य की आवश्यकता होती है।  

"साड़ी की दुकान में एक कार्यकर्ता"

They show at least 10 sarees on an average to one customer and even folds them properly afterwards with a broad smile on their face. The best part (not for them) is, half of the time after examining a dozen of sarees, the ladies are like - “Huhhh….. maza nahi aa raha bhaiya, kuchh aur dikhao” (Huh…. these are not good, show us more) And they will leave without buying one ultimately. Still I don’t see a mark of frustration or irritation on their faces. They again start to fold one. And most of them works on commission.

 वे एक ग्राहक को औसतन कम से कम १० साड़ियाँ दिखाते हैं और यहाँ तक कि बाद में उनके चेहरे पर एक बड़ी मुस्कान के साथ उन्हें ठीक से मोड़ भी देते हैं। सबसे अच्छी बात (उनके लिए नहीं) है, आधा दर्जन साड़ियों की जांच के बाद, महिलाएं इस तरह हैं - "हुह्ह्ह .... मजा नहीं आ रहा भैया, कुछ और दिखाओ" (हुह .... ये अच्छे नहीं हैं, हमें और दिखाओ) और वे अंततः बिना खरीदे ही चले जाएंगे। फिर भी मुझे उनके चेहरे पर निराशा या जलन का कोई निशान नहीं दिखता। वे फिर से एक को मोड़ना शुरू करते हैं। और उनमें से ज्यादातर कमीशन पर काम करते हैं।

Why only saree you ask? 

Well because unlike your regular jeans or dress, an Indian Saree is approx 6 (Popularly known as 6 yards) meter long. Also some traditional sarees are 9 meter long. Which doesn’t make the task any easier for those men.

 Man it requires patience.

आसान काम नहीं है जो मैं आपको बताता हूं।  वे कभी-कभी ऐसा भी करते हैं…..

Hence, I think they’re the most underrated men in India.
